Guns [SHOT 2017] Wondrous New Weatherby Things Industry News January 25, 2017 Join the Conversation Paso Robles, CA based Weatherby made several new product announcements yesterday, including a rifle made just for women shooters. You can read all about these products here. If you happened to be at SHOT Show last week, you could've seen them in person at Booth # 12729. If not, we'll give you a precis below. SHOT Show 2017: Wondrous New Weatherby Things Here’s what they told us and what they want you to know. 1. Vanguard Adaptive Composite Rifle Dialing in the exact fit between rifle and rifleman is critical to precise long-range shooting. Now Weatherby shooters can achieve just that in the new Vanguard Adaptive Composite rifle. It features a revolutionary, specially-designed stock that allows each owner to adjust pull length, comb height and buttstock angle for a true custom fit. “At Weatherby, our creed is that Nothing Shoots Flatter, Hits Harder, or is More Accurate,” said Jason Evans, Vice President, Sales & Product Development of Weatherby, Inc. “That said, accuracy is the one Weatherby virtue that also rests squarely on the shooter’s shoulders. To perform at the highest level, the fit between gun and gunner is of utmost importance – which is why we worked so hard to develop the fully-adjustable, adaptive Vanguard,” Evans added. Visually, the rifle’s attitude is as serious as its performance. Stock adjustments can be made quickly, whether in the shop or on-the-fly in the field. Rubberized grip panels ensure that wherever skin comes in contact with the weapon, a secure, comfortable, non-slip connection is made. Within that adaptive stock lies the backbone of the Vanguard – a 20-inch #3 contour threaded barrel, chambered in either .223 REM, 6.5 Creedmoor or .308 WIN and guaranteed for SUB-MOA accuracy. The barrel is cold hammer forged with a flush thread cap for fast, easy suppressor enhancement (suppressor not included). The blue steel is matte bead blasted for non-glare stealth. True to the Vanguard line, this rifle has a match-grade, two-stage trigger that’s creep-free for consistent let-off and hand-honed for a clean, crisp break. The bolt body is longitudinally fluted to reduce weight, decrease bearing surface area and eliminate binding for a butter-smooth action. A one-piece machined receiver comes standard with an integral recoil lug for the utmost in strength and structural integrity. For shooters born to compete at the range, in the field or in their line of heroic work, the rifle must become an extension of themselves. With the Weatherby Vanguard Adaptive Composite, this rifle adjusts to become that perfect extension. 2. 6.5-300 Magnum and 6.5 Creedmoor Rifle Offerings Expanded When Weatherby introduced the new 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum cartridge in 2015, it was a shot heard around the world. It reaffirmed Weatherby’s pledge that Nothing Shoots Flatter, Hits Harder, or is More Accurate. Out of the box, the 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum became the fastest 6.5mm cartridge in the world, achieving muzzle velocities up to 3,531 FPS. Immediately, competitive shooters and long-range hunters embraced the cartridge for its speed, match-grade accuracy and bone-crushing hydrostatic impact performance. Originally available in select Mark V firearms, Weatherby has now expanded the list of rifles that will cycle this remarkable cartridge. Those models now include the Mark V Accumark & Accumark RC, Ultra Lightweight, Terramark & Terramark RC, Arroyo & Arroyo RC and the Outfitter & Outfitter RC. “We pride ourselves on being extremely responsive to our customers’ wishes,” says Jason Evans, Vice President, Sales and Product Development of Weatherby, Inc. “So when shooters asked us to offer more Mark Vs chambered in the 6.5-300 Weatherby Magnum, we delivered.” Also in the 6.5mm world, Weatherby has responded to shooter demand by expanding their 6.5 Creedmoor offerings. The cartridge has been extremely popular among competitive shooters and big game hunters in the Weatherby Vanguard@ series. Now fans of the Mark V rifles can also fire the venerable 6.5 Creedmoor in Accumark, Terramark, Arroyo, Outfitter and Ultra Lightweight models. “More and more shooters are discovering what an amazing round the 6.5 Creedmoor is for flat shooting, precise accuracy and devastating downrange killing power with minimal recoil. When fired through a Vanguard or Mark V, the performance is even more astounding,” says Jason Evans. 3. Vanguard Camilla, now available in 6.5 Creedmoor for Women Shooters No two shooters are alike, and men are certainly different from women when it comes to the way a rifle should fit and perform. That’s why Weatherby created the Vanguard Camilla – a rifle designed entirely for women, by women. The result is an exquisite firearm that truly becomes an extension of a woman’s form. For 2017, a new cartridge has been added to the Camilla line: the flat-shooting, hard-hitting 6.5 Creedmoor. The rifle is also available in .243 WIN, .308 WIN and 7mm-08 REM. “Since introducing Camilla, a rifle named after Roy Weatherby’s wife and the First Lady of the Weatherby family, the glowing response from female shooters has been amazing,” said Adam Weatherby, President of Weatherby, Inc. “It was a natural extension to offer the rifle in 6.5 Creedmoor for long-range match shooting and hunting. It packs a serious wallop without harsh recoil, so it’s really a joy to shoot this gun,” Weatherby added. The creation of the Camilla began by consulting Women of Weatherby representatives and other female hunters and shooters to ensure an exact design. Its stock, sculpted from A-grade Turkish walnut with a satin finish and rosewood caps, has a slim forearm for a fine feel and reduced weight. The narrow radius pistol grip has a subtle palm-swell and a short grip-to-trigger reach for smaller hands. Camilla’s high comb provides optimal cheek weld and eye-scope alignment. Combined with its 13-inch length of pull and thoughtful buttstock angle, this rifle exactly fits a woman’s form with impeccable balance and fast-to-target handling. Like all Weatherby Vanguard rifles, Camilla provides confidence with a match-quality, two-stage trigger that breaks crisp and clean. Its 20-inch #1 contour barrel guarantees SUB-MOA accuracy, and when cycling 6.5 Creedmoor cartridges at long range, Camilla proves that Nothing Shoots Flatter, Hits Harder, or is More Accurate than a Weatherby.
