Extreme Long Range Comes To Dixie

Joe Burdick, known for match directing the Bushnell Elite Tactical Sniper Challenge and 3-gun Long Range, pushed the envelope for what most people thought was possible on the east coast. He brought Extreme Long Range (ELR) down to Georgia. Turnout was large, chock full of the biggest names in the shooting industry and it looks like it’s here to stay.

The inaugural ELR Southeast Match was a big success. Twenty-seven shooter/spotter teams participated in the first match held at Arena Training Facility. There were two divisions completing similar courses of fire. Both engaged five targets with five shots each. The Heavy division targets started at 1709 yards and went out to 2310 yds. The Light gun division engaged targets from 1108 to 1940 yds.

With such positive feedback from national level competitors and sponsors. Joe has decided to run two, two-day matches in 2019. The first will be the “South Georgia Shootout” in March. Followed by a match in the fall.

In addition, Arena training facility will be upgrading their infrastructure to further enhance its capability to support these matches. Upgrades like: two elevated, 160 sq. ft. decks to the rear of the firing line, more bermed shooting lines and road improvement. If you have ever been to the facility during the rainy season you’ve experienced slick roads and impassable mud pits. Well the staff out there is promising better roads by as early as March.

Burdick wants to give thanks to all the great sponsors and staff of this match. Instructors from the U.S. Army Sniper School at Fort Benning came down to help out with Spotting, Scoring and Range Officer duties. “Without all of their help a match like this wouldn’t have been possible. More importantly than the impressive stack of certificates that they sent for the prize table was the invaluable knowledge and assistance they provided.”
