While most of us prefer to stick to bullets with a proven track record and an empirical, proven ballistic background, that's no reason to ignore the new ammunition coming out. More than a few have been released recently. Here are 3 new ways to gas up your gun. 1. Sig Sauer .223 Rem Match Grade From the frigid reaches of New Hampshire (we're writing this from a place where it's still 70° in the shade) comes Sig's new 223 Rem Match Grade Elite Performance. Designed to function in precision AR platforms and bolt guns alike, the new ammo consists of a a 77gr Sierra Matchking bullet in an open top match (OTM) round with a muzzle velocity of 2,750fps and muzzle energy of 1,923 ft-lbs. Sig (on IG, @sigsauerinc) Match Grade Elite Performance uses what they describe as a temperature-stable propellant intended to deliver, “consistent muzzle velocity in all weather conditions. Premium-quality primers ensure minimum velocity variations, and the shell case metallurgy is optimized in the SIG Match Grade OTM cartridge to yield consistent bullet retention round to round. All SIG SAUER rifle ammunition is precision loaded on state-of-the-art equipment that is 100% electromechanically monitored to ensure geometric conformity and charge weight consistency.” The President of the SIG SAUER Ammunition Division is Dan Powers. He says, “The 223 Rem is one of the most popular calibers on the market today, and our customers have been asking for it since we entered the ammunition business. The accuracy and reliability of our new 223 Rem Match Grade rifle ammunition make it an ideal choice for precision shooters — whether shooting in competitions or hunting varmints.” Luckily for you, Sig's new website went live not too long ago, making it easier to find more information about their new blaster fuel. You can do so here. 2. G2 Research .38 Special and 9mm +P Telos Rounds G2 Research (the guys behind the Radically Invasive Projectile and the RIPOUT Trident rounds, @g2research) sent word of the new Telos ammunition recently. They even did it without melodramatic fanfare…though some of the product description does sound like it came from Mack Bolan novel. To the idea that .38 Special and 9mm Parabellum rounds have been “underrated” during the last decade, Chris Nix, G2 VP of Sales & Marketing, says the following: “That will change with these new G2 Research +P Telos rounds. These new rounds are specifically designed and loaded to stop fights — quickly!” Mmmmkay. Here's how they describe the Telos: The Telos bullet is CNC manufactured using a pure copper slug. It has a huge internally segmented hollow-point. Once the hollow point fills with fluid it literally flies apart in controlled-fragmentation releasing six-copper petals. These fragments spread inside the target for several inches causing pain, increasing blood loss thus lowering blood pressure. The base of the bullet continues to travel forward for additional penetration (10+-inches). The Telos bullet is designed to stay inside the target releasing all of its energy, not into an innocent bystander on the other side of the target. Full Specs: Caliber: .38 Special +P Bullet weight: 105 grains Velocity: 1,170 fps MSRP: $28.99-twenty rounds Caliber: 9mm +P Bullet weight: 92 grains Velocity: 1,120 fps MSRP: $27.99-twenty rounds You can learn more here. 3. Berger Classic Hunter Bullets Berger Bullets (@bergerbullets) recently pushed a new bullet out to join their lineup of match grade varmint, target, hunting and tactical ammunition: the Berger Classic Hunter series. It's a hybrid design with what has been said to be an extremely effective ballistic coefficient, but optimized to feed in production factory rifles. Berger's ballistician Bryan Litz says, “The Classic Hunter provides a unique solution that shares the hybrid design and ballistic properties of a match-quality target bullet, yet allows hunters magazine feed reliability. Now reloaders from entry-level through expert class have an obvious choice for their next hunt.” The Berger Classic Hunter Series adds 6.5mm 135gr, 270 cal 140gr, and 7mm 150gr rounds to the previous 6mm, 270, 7mm and 30 cal Classic Hunter selection. If you want a better look, they're first up in this new product video from Brownells. Check out the bullets and use their twist rate calculator right here.
