Going black – hiding in plain sight

Abner Miranda posted this video a couple days ago and we thought you might be interested. He addresses the all too ubiquitous term tactical and discusses what he carries, and why.

Says Miranda,

Going Black, in this context, is referring to hiding in plain sight. It truly is an art form to be able to come and go without being noticed. Part of going black is about equipment but I believe a greater portion of pulling this off successfully is mindset. Ironically the mindset isn’t one of being overly tactical and “switched on” it’s one of relaxation. You must be chilled out and self assured of who you are and what you’re doing. There are some interesting facets to this video that will help you in making some good choices for your EDC lifestyle.

Asked about his choice of belt, Miranda replies,

“The reason I went with Bullhidebelts.com was out of pure curiosity. I wanted to see what their quality, accuracy, and speed of delivery would be. I look at things now as a consumer instead of as an industry insider. They delivered this belt in 8 days and got it right the first time. Few folks can make things that are custom built and get it right the first time.”

When one viewer protested that his clothing combo in the video “…would scream to me, I'm concealed carrying,” Abner responded,

“You're correct in that you see it as gun clothing because you know what it is. However, you'd be amazed at how many folks don't have a clue about what they're looking at. Here in the TN valley area, this is how a lot of guys dress. It's the “I'm gong fishing” look. If I were somewhere out west I'd do this while wearing a North Face vest. In Manitowish Waters, WI where I was for the 4th of July you do this with shorts and a baggy T-Shirt or even with the fishing/photographers vest.”
