Guns Mini-Me: Dead Air Sandman E-Brake Dave Merrill February 6, 2019 Join the Conversation At RECOIL, we review every product fairly and without bias. Learn More We first caught sight of the new Dead Air E-Brakes (the ‘E' is for ‘Enhanced') with the launch of the new Nomad-30. This little add-on not only provided additional recoil compensation properties, but also further reduces the decibel level of the silencer itself. We weren't sure exactly how this was accomplished, so we reached out to Dead Air about it. What we're told is that since the E-Brake dissipates gas right at the end of the silencer instead of further compressing it, it actually reduces the decibel levels somewhat. Here's something right out of the Nomad-30 manual: At SHOT Show this year, Dead Air showed off a prototype of the mini-me of the Nomad E-Brake, in the form of something more suited for the Sandman series. Of course we pocketed it. As with the Nomad model, the Sandman E-Brake accepts all Dead Air end caps–though in this case, we think that the addition of a flash hider endcap would mostly just serve for aesthetics. Of course, you can still interchange them. But a Nomad E-Brake on a Sandman looks rather… phallic. The opposite didn't look so bad though; we're pretty certain we want to try and make the weirdest looking silencer possible. Aside from whatever Jesse James put out, that is. Insofar as testing, we have yet to break out into anything formal–but you can absolutely expect that from us very soon. In the meantime you can visit Dead Air online here.
