New FDE Modlite Options & Scout Compatible ModButton

Since the Modlite entered the market, the internet has demanded FDE Modlite options. Up until now, the only way to get a tan Modlite was to spray paint your light.

The Modlite team has been far more focused on bringing new products to the market that break the mold of traditional weapon lights. After the addition of the Modlite Handheld that we gave you a first look at, the dull roar begging for FDE became a full-on scream. Modlite's Cory Starr had to address the demand for Tandonized lights.

The internet can relax now, Cory pulled a flat dark earth Modlite handheld from his pocket on the floor of SHOT Show with news that consumers will be able to snatch up a flat dark earth Modlite in as little as 8 to 10 weeks. Now that you will be able to get them in FDE as well as classic black, we imagine that the internet will be demanding OD Green before the first flat dark eath units ship out.

Modlite ModButton

Modlite made a splash with the introduction of the PLH and OKW light heads, if you aren't familiar with them you can check out our first look article about them.

The only aspect of the Modlite ecosystem (#scoutlightecosystem) that we found a touch lacking, although still very functional, was the tape switch options available at the time. Modlite says that the older tape style switches that we have become accustomed to sap anywhere between 15 to 20% of the current as it passes through the switch. That means that you aren't seeing the full potential of your light.

The new ModButton solves that by providing a more efficient switch that isn't robbing us of our power and gives us a lower profile option that takes up less rail space. Like the rest of the Modlite line, the ModButton will be compatible with Surefire Scout lights and any other lights that use Scout light components.

The  ModButton isn't just a tape switch though, it is also a 45-degree mount compatible with anything that uses scout light mounting holes. If you want to mount your light further forward but prefer the tape switch closer to you, the Unity FUSION LightWing adapter will push the light out to eliminate as much shadow as possible from a suppressor or to clear a laser.

Another cool feature of the ModButton is the curved rubber reinforcement designed to take the stress off the wire and prevent breakage when tidying up the wires.

The ModButton will be available sometime February 2020 with an MSRP under $130, well within reason once you consider the cost of a mount and a tape switch.
