New Optics Ready VP9 From Heckler & Koch

The cries for an optics ready VP9 have been pretty damned loud for some time. Now those looking to mount a red dot to their VP9 have a factory option. Finally, there is an HK pistol worthy of Space Force.

The optics ready VP9 shares the same external dimensions of the original VP9, but with the addition of a plate style mini red dot adapter system.

Even though most other manufacturers have embraced the dot and released a pistol with some type of multi-optics system, Heckler & Koch seemed hesitant to join the ranks of mini red dot sight capable pistol manufacturers.

The new pistol uses a plate system similar to almost every other pistol on the market, but HK incorporated a bit ol' recoil lug to keep the plate from shifting during the recoil cycle.

Five optic adapter plates will be offered to fit several models of popular mini red dot sights, but they will not be included in the box.  We were told that when you decide what red dot you want to mount, you can get on to the HK web store and place an order for the plate you need without being stuck with several mounting plates you don't need. The actual price for the plates has yet to be confirmed, but HK indicated that they should be about $20.

Plates to be offered:

  • Plate 01 – Meopta Meosight III, Eotech MRDS, Noblex Sight III
  • Plate 02 – Trijicon RMR, Holosun
  • Plate 03 – C-More STS2
  • Plate 04 – Leupold Deltapoint
  • Plate 05 – Buris Fastfire 2 & 3, Vortex Viper & Venom

While we only put our mitts on the paddle mag release version, we are told that they plan to offer both a paddle mag release and a US-style push-button release.

HK also increased the capacity of the magazines from 15-rounds to 17-rounds. We were told that by redesigning the follower and some other space magic applied internally, the mag picked up two rounds of capacity while still being flush fit.

No MSRP was provided to us by HK, we assume that it will carry a slightly higher price point than the standard VP9 to account for the additional machine time.

  2. Norman Bacheldor says:

Do you know if the SigSauer Romeo1 pro is available for a HK VP9.
    Thanks

No. Called HK and they say SIG won’t give them the ability to make it and the mount is proprietary. Yet another reason this gun is not truly “optics ready”.

  3. Dallas Hosey says:

This is not “optics ready” like the name implies. You have to order plates. The plates are impossible to find (and HK doesn’t even make plates for SIG optics). Just say its pre-milled or sell the dang plates with the gun, otherwise they really ought to stop calling it “optics ready”. P.S. I’ll sell my first born if someone can tell me where I can buy plate 5?
