Officers Down in Dallas

Four police officers are dead and at least seven more wounded after a gunbattle in Dallas tonight. Several of the wounded are in critical condition at area hospitals. Initial reports indicate 3 officers were dead upon arrival at the hospital and one succumbed to injuries later in the evening. The Dallas Police Department reports at least 2 snipers from what is described as  an “elevated position” engaged officers during a protest over 2 recent line of duty police involved shootings, and amateur video shows at least one shooter (whether one of the “snipers” or a third suspect is unknown) on the ground shooting at least one officer.
