Ah, January. That time of year when people in the real world are cursing their commute, once again gorked up by snowfall. When heating bills provide a mild shock when pulled from their envelopes, and we’re counting down the days until venturing outside to do something worthwhile doesn’t require eight layers of clothing and a flask of brown liquid.
The firearms industry is, of course, in the midst of its annual trip to Vegas to show off its wares. No doubt we’ll be regaled by breathless pressers touting the latest groundbreaking version of a 40-year-old design, only this time — gasp — it’s in Coyote! Buried amongst the hype will obviously be some true innovation and original thinking, and you can count on RECOIL’s staff to wade through the hyperbole and bullsh*t to bring you the news that matters. We’ll be expanding our class-leading coverage from the Sands Expo Convention Center, with the goal of producing more quality video and web content than anyone else. And we hope that you, our loyal readers, will hold us to that goal.
In that theme, this issue looks at some of the most cutting-edge firearms around. Candice Horner examines Remington’s CSR, which is finally appearing on gun store shelves after years of only being available to guys with pixelated faces, the same dudes who are running the Knight’s LAMG. We also get to grips with Bill Geissele’s Project Joy — almost 13 pounds of super-accurate gas gun, developed for yet another solicitation that originated behind the wire. And from across the Atlantic, the B&T USW brings a European solution to problem that unfortunately crosses continental boundaries. You’ll probably notice that none of these guns appear anywhere else in print, but that’s OK, the other guys will catch up eventually.
We predict that market pressures will make 2018 a banner year for new products and outside-the-box thinking. And we’ll be doing our utmost to ensure our readers are ahead of the curve when it comes to both hardware and hard skills. Stay tuned …
