Learn More This weekend past saw Spartan Tactical of Texas host the 2015 5th Annual Fallen Brethren 3 Gun Challenge at the Spartan Tactical Range Complex near Dallas, TX. Spartan Tactical is run by Jim Smith, a US Army Special Mission Unit veteran who was present during the “Blackhawk Down” battle in Mogadishu and was wounded by enemy fire; the helo from which he was providing aerial sniper support (Super 6-1) crashed in the city (the first one to do so). Jim extricated himself from the wreckage, defended the surviving crew members and continued to fight at the crash site for many hours. Later he was instrumental in developing the training program for the Aysmmetric Warfare Group, was one of the first instructors called upon to establish and train the fledgling Air Marshal program after 9/11 and has continued to provide training to civilians and those on the sharp end alike in the years since. The fact is, it's hard to describe what an outstanding individual Jim is without sounding trite. It's not surprising that he runs a match like this, the proceeds of which go to fund scholarships for the children of fallen Unit members. These images are courtesy of the Spartan Tactical Range Complex and Jim Smith – many were taken by competitors and supporting organizations who tagged either Jim or the range complex or both.
