Sig Sauer MCX Rattler Combat Evaluation Planned by SOCOM

According to a solicitation published on the Fed Biz Opps website, NSWC Crane has issued a solicitation for a sole source contract to supply 10 SIG MCX Rattler conversion kits. The Sig Sauer MCX Rattler combat evaluation will help shape future requirements for an M4A1 PDW Conversion system. The kits are to satisfy the Government’s requirement for Special Operation Command (SOCOM).

The solicitation justification review document states that they will be testing the SIG MCX in a combat environment as the result of an “urgent operational need that is jeopardizing lives and safety.” These kits “will be used to refine and define future requirements.”

OK, so maybe they aren’t exactly proper ‘Rattlers’ but for the sake of conversation, I am going to refer to the PDW kit as a Rattler conversion kit.

Why the SIG MCX Rattler? The solicitation document mentions that market research was conducted in May of 2017 to search out all commercially available conversion kits for the M4A1 that will turn the carbine into a personal defense weapon. The solicitation also states that twelve other kits were eliminated due to not meeting the pre-solicitation requirements for the test stating that SIG Sauer was the only commercially available kit that clearly defined their ability to deliver a PDW kit.
