This year at SOFIC, Spyderco had a ton of knives on the table, but this one caught my eye right away. The Paysan is a folding knife created after the custom design of Peter Rassenti. Peter Rassenti is a custom knife maker from Canada who specializes in integral folding knives, which is part of what makes the Paysan such an impressive piece of craftsmanship.
While the handles of most knives are made out of multiple pieces, integral knife handles are crafted from one and only one piece of solid metal. In the Paysan's case, that metal is titanium. Just holding the knife, the quality of engineering and robustness are obvious.
The Paysan has a saber-ground blade that is made of 4mm-thick (.157-inch) CPM S90V particle metallurgy stainless steel and has a fully accessible Trademark Round Hole for ambidextrous, one-handed opening. The blade pivots on ball-bearing washers for a smooth action and also features a high-strength Reeve Integral Lock (R.I.L.) mechanism. The lock has a stainless steel interface which also serves as an overtravel stop. Lastly, the Paysan features an hourglass pocket clip configured for right-side, tip-up carry, giving carriers easy, quick access.
MSRP for the Paysan is $800.00
