Spyderco was showing off some new things today at the Usual Suspect Network Gathering; couple of the most interesting were the Squareheads and Dog Tag Folders.
The Squareheads were designed by Darriel Caston. A small and extremely lightweight folder with a single-sided handle machined from a solid piece of titanium, it uses an integral LinerLock style locking mechanism. The blade is a matte stonewash finish chisel-ground CPM S30V blade. OAL is 3.3 in., the blade is just 1.3 in and the weight is 1.1 oz. Learn more about the Squarehead (or purchase one) right here.
The Dog Tag Folders are the work of Ukrainian-born Serge Panchenko. There a couple versions of this, including one that features a one-piece G-10 laminate handle. Blades are single-beveled chisel-ground CPM S30V stainless with a non-reflective black titanium carbonitride coating. It also features an inlaid stainless steel spring in the handle that provides tension for the detent mechanism. OAL is 3.23 in., blade length is 1.23 in. with a slipjoint lock. Weight is just .9 oz. You can find the black version here; contrasting green and blue anodized version here and black carbon fiber backed version right here.
Wear them like dog tags (hence the name) or clipped to someplace innocuous as an obtrusive (or secondary) EDC item, whatever you prefer. Watch for additional models and colors in 2016
