Streamlight Introduces TLR-8G Compact Green Aimer/Illuminator

Ultra-Lightweight, Low-Profile Tactical Light Features “Eye-Safe” Daylight Green Aiming Laser

Streamlight keeps putting out more and more impressive lights and lasers ever since they started business in 1973. Joining their TLR line of rail-mounted light/laser combos, the newly-announced TLR-8G shrinks the overall package down while maximizing visibility. At SHOT Show, Bobby Knight walked us through the features of this impressive little light. The specs follow:

Constructed with 6000 Series machined aircraft aluminum with a black anodized finish, the TLR-8G weighs 2.64 ounces and measures only 2.15 inches in length. With extensively live-fire tested, impact-resistant construction, the new model features an IPX4-rated design for water-resistant operation. It's powered by a single 3 Volt CR123A lithium battery.

The low-profile, eye-safe laser/light has three modes: Aiming Laser-Only, LED-Light-Only, and Dual-Mode, which activates both the aimer and the torch. Run times are 1.5 hours in LED-Light Only, LED and Laser, and strobe modes, or 11 hours in the Laser-Only mode. It puts out 500 lumens of white light and 5,000 candela over a 140-meter beam distance. The green beam laser is “Eye-Safe” and thus legal for commercial sale. The modes can be activated with ambidextrous controls can be activated from the left or right with either hand. There’s also a safe “off” lockout position of the bezel.

Easily mounted to a wide range of pistols, carbines, and other weapons, the TLR-8G features Streamlight’s one-handed, snap-on-and-tighten interface that keeps hands away from gun muzzles when attaching or detaching them.  Streamlight claims their light securely fits “the broadest array of handguns of any light on the market.”

It comes with a bunch of inserts they call “keys” that center the light up to fit various rail types. An especially trick, and low-profile way to mount it on a carbine or PCC is upside-down on the 12-o'clock rail, in front of any front sight. This way, the thumb can activate its paddle buttons without shifting firing grip. It's really slick and compact up on the rail. Even though it's more for pistols and not necessarily designed with rifles in mind, and I've got a feeling this TLR-8G could easily find its way onto the rail of a nighttime varminting 22LR rifle.

Streamlight’s CEO, Ray Sharrah explained, “Concealed carry, law enforcement, military and home defense users alike can benefit from the TLR-8 G’s targeted bright light, as well as its powerful green laser. The laser improves users’ ability to focus on targets during daylight hours, when the color green appears brighter to the human eye than other colored lasers. The light also can be stored on a handgun so that users can more readily identify a potential threat before taking any action.”

The TLR-8 G has an MSRP of $450.00, and comes with Streamlight's Limited Lifetime Warranty.
