Learn More While Surefire had all the flashlights and silencers they're so well known for on display at SOFIC, we got hands-on with some decidedly more specific military gear. First up we have what some would call blank firing adapters. Surefire calls them Blank Safety Devices (BSD) for reason which will be clear momentarily. While not exactly brand-new, they aren't often seen in the wild. Of course, they're compatible with Surefire muzzle devices and attach in the same way as normal silencers. The blue example is more refined and features adjustable gas in order to operate in a wide variety of gas systems, whereas the yellow has fixed gas. Surefire calls them Blank Safety Devices because they have integral round traps. If someone happens to mix live rounds with blanks (an unfortunately too common occurrence), the BSDs will catch them and shoot fire out of the side. Though officially they can absorb three live rounds, a good source told us it could likely take far more–but don't get any YouTube ideas about it… Next up are training suppressors. These are the same size and weight of their quiet-maker cousins but have no guts inside. They are particularly useful for when you are training with frangible-type ammunition that can separate inside of a traditional silencer. Last, and certainly not least, is a three-prong meant to tame a .50BMG beast. This new flash hider mounts via a clever clamping mechanism to any unthreaded US .mil .50BMG. It's been successful enough that you might spy a variant for threaded barrels down the line…. Get more info on Surefire training devices here.
