Congratulations to Matt Wilson, Ryan Farley, Chris Reding, Xavier Lopez, and Robert Towles for winning the Lone Survivor DVD giveaways.
If you’re surfing this website, there’s a pretty good chance you’re familiar with former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell. If not, then you have probably heard of or already watched Lone Survivor, the 2013 movie adaptation of Luttrell’s memoir of the same name.
Now, the box-office hit has recently been released on Blu-ray and DVD, and these home-video formats provide an even closer look at not only the making of the movie, but also the real-life heroes who paid the ultimate sacrifice.
For those living under a rock, the Peter Berg-directed movie chronicles the heroism Luttrell (portrayed by Mark Wahlberg) and his teammates exhibited during Operation Red Wings, a real-life mission in which four SEALs were tasked with hunting down a Taliban leader. When they encountered shepherds, including a boy, the team upheld the rules of engagement and released them. But they soon found themselves fending off dozens of Taliban fighters with superior firepower. As the title forewarns, only Luttrell made it home.
The home-video versions are loaded with bonus features, including “The Fallen Heroes of Operation Red Wings” in which Wahlberg and his three co-stars profile the sailors they portrayed in the movie: Luttrell, Matthew Axelson, Daniel Dietz, and Michael Murphy. Also, relatives of the fallen SEALs recall what these men were like in their private lives and why they chose to serve our country in the military. The Blu-ray has more exclusive material, such as “Recreating the Firefight” (a featurette on how Berg, the actors, and stunt coordinator Kevin Scott choreographed the action scenes) and “Will of the Warrior” (an in-depth look at Luttrell, who received Navy Cross and Purple Heart commendations for his actions during Operation Red Wings).
If you want a chance at winning a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack of Lone Survivor, follow the instructions in the Giveaway module below. Five random entrants will each win the movie, a copy of RECOIL #13, and a copy of OFFGRID #3.
