No Fat Lady Singing — Adam Kraut for NRA Board of Directors

In RECOIL Issue #29 we endorsed Adam Kraut in the upcoming NRA Board of Directors election. We did this for many reasons, all of which are listed in the full article. With 26 seats out of 76 were up for grabs, RECOIL just learned Kraut was not among those elected.

But the fat lady hasn't sung. Not yet.

In order to vote in the general election, NRA members had to be a Life Member, Benefactor, or an NRA Member for more than five consecutive years. But, the requirement to vote in the election for the 76th seat, one that's only held for a single year instead of three, are less restrictive and voting takes place in person at the NRA's annual meeting taking place in Atlanta this week.

Kraut is asking eligible voting members attending the NRA Annual Meeting to take a moment and cast a vote for him in building B, level 4, Room B403 of the Georgia World Congress Center as noted in the handy reference card below.

We asked Kraut about his plan:

Adam Kraut: “Earlier this month I received the results from this year’s election. Unfortunately, I was not elected. At this point, the NRA has not released the number of votes each candidate received. I expect those to be available after the annual meeting. However, there is a little known one-year term (the 76th Board Seat) that is elected by the members at the annual meeting. The voting requirements for the 76th Seat are much broader which usually means most attendees can vote. You only have to have been a member (any level member) of the NRA prior to March 9, 2017.”

“Voting occurs in Room B403 (fourth floor) on Thursday from 2 PM to 6 PM, Friday 8 AM to 6 PM and Saturday 8 AM to 4 PM. The best time to go cast your ballot is after you’ve gotten your registration materials. If you received yours in the mail, make sure to prioritize voting so you know you have done your part while walking around the show.”

RECOIL:Why do you want a one year term? Does taking this seat improve the chances you’ll get elected as a full-term member?

AK: “I decided to pursue the one-year term after discussion between a few close friends because giving up was just not an option. After speaking with so many people who supported me over the past few months and seeing a potential pathway to being elected, I felt that I would be doing those people a disservice by not trying. I do not believe that being elected to the one-year term will necessarily land me a nomination committee endorsement in subsequent years, however, it is something I would be able to list on my biography for future years.”

“If I am not elected, I will have to reevaluate the lay of the land based on a variety of factors and decide whether to run again right away or give it a little time before pursuing the position again. At this point, I have not decided either way. Regardless of the outcome, I do want to thank everyone for their support. It has been a truly humbling experience.”
